An early morning winter storm can make for some beautiful photography

It may not be good for the commute, but the wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain that passing through the city early this morning provided an opportunity for some beautiful photography of nature as the storm clouds intertwined with the tall buildings in Manhattan. Light from the streets and the buildings illuminated the sky with an eerie glow that shaped them in the night sky.

Very early in the morning I did a series of photographs with the Fuji X-T1 and the 10-24mm lens. Each photograph was different in the shape of the clouds and what it revealed of the scene. Photographing during inclement weather --  messy and difficult as it can be -- is one of my favorite subjects.

Two of the many images I took are shown below.

What I like about this scene is that the building all but disappears in the clouds with just its beacon light breaking through the mist.

As the storm progressed the rain turned to ice giving me the opportunity for the two silhouette shots below taken later in the morning.
